Take a look at this "oldie but goodie" in front of the purposely well-positioned SWIIM truck:

This is an authentic wooden water delivery gate (headgate) from the early 1900s - a water diversion structure for open-channel flow.  It is located at the entrance to the Imperial County Airport.  It was placed there to commemorate the coming of water to the Imperial Valley from the Colorado River.  Also, it commemorates the efforts of the pioneers to turn the desert into a productive agricultural area.
